“In making this film, I wanted to create a conversation around trauma and the healing process, using dance as a form of catharsis," Cowley tells PAPER. "Although the process of working through grief and shame often feels messy and isolating, the film is intended to arm people with the courage to face uncomfortable memories and their own inner dialogue.

NOWNESS: BLM HOLD ON FILM

Pip’s documentation of the BLM movement was featured via NOWNESS and The Fader, and a photographic feature in The Washington Post. Scenes from the filming went viral within 24hrs with over 10M views. Footage from the film went on to be featured in Michelle Obama’s “When We All Vote” Campaign, The Chicks “March March” music video, PBS, and comedy series Bust Down featuring Chris Redd.

The goal of the film was to shift the narrative around the news coverage of the movement and use dance as a form of peaceful protest and catharsis.
